Where Did the Name Come From?

Hello again and welcome to my second blog post! If you’ve seen me at a show, followed me on socials, or are even just checking out my website for the first time, you’re probably wondering where did the name Stormy Gale Photography come from?

I have many mentors who through their missions have spoken into my life and suggested to name my business something that represents or me or is my name. I mean, it’s my business and would be the easiest to connect to, so why not? Well this name does hold my name. As you have read in my intro and welcome post, I started my journey photographing storms and weather and trained to become a meteorologist. As I was working through my schooling, my friend’s mother compared me to one of my favorite characters on one of my favorite shows and I got the nickname “Stormy.” The second part came from the second syllable in my full name “Gail.” Gail rhymes with its homophone gale, like a strong, gale force wind (meteorology). When I would struggle through my studies with my classmates, they would issue gale watches and warnings, teasing me, and then building me up and helping me along the way. It always makes me laugh to think about.

I feel like this name brings a lot of who I am to the business without being super obvious, kind of like how when I shoot, I love to try to just blend in and be a part of nature instead of adding something to it or changing anything. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having your actual name, this is just me.

I hope you enjoyed a little back story of the name of the business and that you check back for my next post which will dive into the back story behind one of my most popular photos!

Thank you!
